Boatswain’s Beach is a marine theme park expansion at the Cayman Turtle Farm. The focal point of this project is Boatswain’s Lagoon, a 1.5 million gallon sea water snorkel lagoon, predator tank (viewable by snorklers) and interactive tidal pool. The AALSS treatment system, with a 30 MGD recirculation rate, includes bio filtration (nitrification), sand filtration, carbon filtration, ozonation, de-ozonation, aeration and deaeration. DBE provided planning, design, construction support and curatorial services as part of the design-build team for the entire project. DBE also provided recommendations for stocking the exhibits, collecting, permitting, quarantine, husbandry and staffing. The complete expansion is expected to open in Summer 2006. |

This $100 million project included three separate water treatment facilities with a total capacity of 70 MGD. The project included analysis and design of water treatment components (ozonation, chlorination, chemical delivery system), pumping stations, piping network, reverse osmosis system and sizing concrete reservoirs. DBE staff was responsible for managing the project scope, leading the design team, cost estimating, specification writing, coordination with other disciplines, construction administration and on-site support during construction and start-up. |

This was a $25 million project consisting of two separate ALSS systems with remote water transfer station. One ALSS system was dedicated to the polar bear exhibit which had extensive underwater viewing and included processes to allow multi-species to be displayed in the exhibit. The AALSS consisted of sand filtration with ozone and deozonation processes to control E. Coli and add to the water clarity of the saltwater exhibit. DBE staff was responsible for design and analysis of the hydraulic process associated with water treatment, cost estimates, plan development, client coordination and specification writing and extensive construction support. In addition to the polar bear holding pool, the exhibit included trout that were acclimated to saltwater prior to induction into the exhibit. The architect/theming designers desired an exhibit that would always have something for the guest to look at since this was in a “show” environment. |
